The Transformation of St. Clare Children Home
From Turbulence to Viable, Results-Driven, Social Enterprises at St. Clare Children Home
The Engagement

We were engaged by SLW Germany (the sole funding partner of St. Clare Children Home in Uganda) to help the Home establish viable, results-driven, social enterprises by enabling results-based management. St. Clare Children Home and School are owned by Lira Diocese - Uganda and managed by the Missionary Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church.

A State of Turbulence...

At the time, the organization was going through turbulence - friction, confusion, and underperformance.

A cursory assessment revealed that the organization lacked a clear vision for the future, the staff team was underperforming, the management team was relationally dysfunctional, there was even a live conflict between the leader and one of the senior managers, and something about the organizational structure and systems just felt off.

As much as the organization had a current strategic plan, there was no strategic development happening.

Strategic Development

We started by getting a fresh (and honest) perspective on where the Home had been, where it was, and where it was stuck. This became a roadmap for where to strategically place our focus.

We then led a process that defined the right structure for the Home, placed the Right People in the Right Seats, and weeded all staff redundancy.

After which, we created an RBM System with measurable goals and an actionable, clear path forward, and the leadership had begun executing and achieving wins in the first 90 days.

Leadership Accompaniment

Because of seeing real results, the funding partner has retained us to continue to work with the leadership team of the Home to provide accountability and ongoing coaching as the leadership team puts the plan into action (we help them follow through).

Establishment of Social Enterprises

Just by sealing revenue leakages and cutting waste, with the same funding, the Home has over the past five years established agri-business, a nursery school, a primary school, and is in the process of establishing a vocational training centre.

Within five years of our engagement, as a result of enabling the RBM System, the Home now has four viable, results-driven, social enterprises. And the funding partner has now started reducing funding as internally generated revenue grows.
